Attendance:
Commitment to Attend: We expect your child to attend each and every scheduled class. Please make this a consideration when the time comes to join another activity later in the season. Because we limit the number of children in a class we are hopeful that everyone will honor their commitment and complete the entire year. Otherwise, you are taking a spot that could have been given to another child who would finish out the year. If a child is going to be absent then please give us a call and leave a message to save us a worry. There are no refunds for missed classes.
Make-up Classes: Lessons that are missed due to illness can be made up at a later date. Please request a Make-Up at the front desk. The front desk will tell you an appropriate day & time to make up your lesson. There are no refunds for missed classes.
Studio Closings: In the event of snow, ice, hazardous driving conditions or other emergencies, the dance center may close. Please call the dance center at 464-0128 to confirm the closing. There will be a recorded message broadcast if there are any cancellations. There will also be an announcement posted on the home page of the web site. These lessons will then be made up at a later date.
Extended Absences: For periods of extended absence due to family travel, vacations, injury, prolonged illness, school activities, sports activities, etc. we can place a hold on your position at TSDC as a registered student, but we cannot hold your position in a particular class. To remain in a particular class, students must continue making their monthly tuition payments in full. There are no refunds for missed classes.
Attitude:
TSDC has the fundamental expectation that parents and students treat each other, instructors, the staff, the owners and all adults with kindness and respect. Whether students attend TSDC to develop self-esteem, to get exercise or to train for a lifetime in the arts - a professional, polite, and positive attitude is absolutely necessary by all students and parents!
Students will be asked to leave class without credit if disrespect is shown to any teacher, other students, staff, or the owners. If attitude problems continue then parents will be contacted and informed of the attitude/behavior problems. We reserve the right to discontinue providing instructions to a student who continues to present the improper attitude. We also reserve the right to discontinue providing instructions to a student whose parent displays an improper attitude and/or respect toward students, instructors, staff members, the owners and other parents.

Observation:
Parents are not permitted in the dance rooms during classes. This allows the child to develop a trust with the teacher. It also eliminates the distractions that occur when visitors are in the room. The exception to this policy is the Mommy & Me class.
At all times, there are 4 closed-circuit cameras, which broadcast activities of all 4 dance rooms into the waiting area on a large HD screen for parental viewing.
Placement:
TSDC uses an effective placement and level system. Classes are grouped according to the types of dance offered, school grade, age and the ability of the student.
This insures that the student is placed in the appropriate class.
Click here for the full explanation of the "Level System".
Pointe Shoes:
The ultimate goal of every ballet dancer is to dance "sur les pointes." However, this goal cannot be attained without a very strong foundation in ballet technique. Because each child is different not everyone is ready for pointe shoes at the same exact time.
Students are permitted to begin pointe work only when the teacher feels that she is ready.
Permission to begin pointe work is based upon the student who ...
- • has taken ballet classes for at least 3 years.
- • is currently taking 2 or more ballet classes per week.
- • is past her eleventh birthday.
Only these students will be considered for pointe.
You will be notified when the time is near.
Your ballet teacher will personally fit you with your first pair of pointe shoes.
